Mac Setup Guide

Mac Setup Guide

Prerequisites

  • Download the AzuriteWoW launcher from our downloads page
  • Download the game client using the launcher
  • Make note of your installation directory

Important: AzuriteWoW currently only supports Intel-based Mac computers. Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Mac users may experience compatibility issues.

Step 1: Download and Install AzuriteWoW

  1. Download the Mac launcher from our downloads page
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag the AzuriteWoW Launcher to your Applications folder
  3. Launch the application and follow the installer prompts
  4. The launcher will download the game client files
  5. Make note of your installation directory - you'll need this for the next steps

Note: While our launcher works natively on macOS, the game client itself requires a compatibility layer to run properly.

Option 1: Running with Porting Kit (Recommended)

Porting Kit provides a reliable way to run Windows games on macOS with minimal configuration.

1. Install Porting Kit

  • Visit the Porting Kit website and download the latest version
  • Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag Porting Kit to your Applications folder
  • Launch Porting Kit and complete the initial setup process

2. Create a Custom Port for AzuriteWoW

  • In Porting Kit, click on the "Create Custom Port" button in the sidebar
  • Enter "AzuriteWoW" as the name for your custom port
  • Click "Browse" and navigate to your AzuriteWoW installation directory
  • Select "Wow.exe" as the executable and click "Open"
  • For the Engine selection, choose "WS11WineCX64Bit" (or the latest Wine engine available)
  • Leave other settings at their defaults and click "Create"
  • Porting Kit will create a new Wine wrapper environment for your game

3. Set Up Your Game Files

  • Once the initial setup is complete, Porting Kit will attempt to launch the game
  • After the first launch, close the game
  • In Finder, navigate to your Porting Kit wrapper location (usually in ~/Library/Application Support/Porting Kit/portingkit_profiles/)
  • Find the AzuriteWoW folder and navigate to "drive_c"
  • Copy all the files from your original AzuriteWoW installation directory into this drive_c folder
  • This ensures all game files are within the Wine environment

4. Launch the Game

  • Return to Porting Kit and find "AzuriteWoW" in your library
  • Click "Play" to launch the game
  • Login with your account credentials and enjoy!

Tip: If you encounter any issues during the first launch, try clicking on "Open C: Drive" in Porting Kit, then navigate to the folder where you copied your game files and double-click on "Wow.exe" directly.

Option 2: Running with Lutris

Lutris is an alternative gaming platform that can run Windows games on macOS.

1. Install Lutris

  • First, install Homebrew if you don't already have it:
    • Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities → Terminal)
    • Run this command: /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
    • Follow the on-screen instructions
  • Install Lutris through Homebrew:
    • In Terminal, run: brew install lutris

2. Configure Lutris

  • Launch Lutris from your Applications folder
  • Complete the initial setup process
  • Click the "+" button in the top left and select "Add game"
  • Fill in the following details:
    • Name: AzuriteWoW
    • Runner: Wine (select from dropdown)
    • Working directory: Your AzuriteWoW installation directory
    • Executable: Browse to and select "Wow.exe" in your installation directory
  • In the "Game options" tab, ensure "Disable fullscreen mode" is unchecked
  • In the "Runner options" tab, select the latest Wine version
  • Click "Save" to confirm your settings

3. Launch the Game

  • Your AzuriteWoW installation should now appear in the Lutris library
  • Click "Play" to launch the game
  • Log in with your account credentials

Troubleshooting

  • Performance Issues: macOS compatibility layers consume additional resources. Try lowering in-game graphics settings and closing other applications before playing.
  • Graphical Glitches: Try different Wine versions or toggle DXVK settings in your compatibility layer.
  • Black Screen: Change the game to Windowed Mode through the game's configuration files or try launching with different graphics options.
  • Game Crashes: Check the Wine console logs for error messages that may help identify the issue.

Mac setups can vary significantly. If you encounter issues not covered here, please join our Discord for community support.

Note: Our support focuses on Porting Kit installations. While Lutris is a viable alternative, you may need to seek help from the Lutris community for issues specific to that method.

Apple Silicon Users: While our game will work on Apple Silicon Macs through Rosetta 2 or Parallels, running the game itself may require additional configuration and performance may be reduced. We recommend using an Intel-based Mac for the best experience.
